The
West Australian Thoroughbred Breeders Association represents
thoroughbred breeders and the breeding industry.
Our
aim is to promote the West Australian industry both in Australia and
overseas and to develop new markets for our horses. To
represent the interest of breeders with government and administrative
bodies. To
encourage new breeders into the market and to be of assistance to liaise
with other sections of the industry and enhance the racing industry.
Any
breeders or those just merely interested in the industry may join, the
more members the stronger voice we have. Please
contact Veronica for further information regarding membership benefits.
WA
Breeding Industry
The
breeding industry in Western Australia has continued to improve the
quality of both stallions and broodmares in recent years. In the 2008
breeding season over 2,600 mares were returned from Western Australia to
the Australian Stud Book while over 90 stallions were returned for the
2009 breeding season. The introduction of stallions with some of the
worlds best and most sort after bloodlines has been a feature the
industry in recent years.
Western
Australia has consistently had sires in the Australian top 100 sires
listings by stakes earnings with names like Scenic,
Dantetime, Bletchley Part, Dante's Fury,
Blackfriars, Key Business, Hurricane Sky along with many
others sires from the last decade.
The
breeding industry in Western Australia has worked hard for many years to
promote itself into markets such as South East Asia and more recently
South Africa. As a result buyers from these regions feature prominently
at the major yearling sales and give local breeders opportunities to
sell to new clients.
